Headers & Roller Rockers Question: PICS!
Hey all, a coworker of mine brought in headers and roller rockers that I might buy. They're from his daughter's ex-boyfriend's 5.0 (no idea what year, could be 79-95 but I see no sensor holes) I have no idea how many miles the parts have on them, but the headers look like they're in great condition, and I have no clue about RR's at all, so any info on them would help. I've got a stock engine.. Here are pics: If someone can tell me what kind of headers they are (they're BBK, but don't know if they're ceramic coated, 1 5/8 or 3/4, no idea about anything really). You can see the serial number. Help please! Thanks.

THose are BBK Un Equal Length Shorty headers, looks like they are in good shape definaitly a good buy! Those are 1.72 Roller Rockers which are good to use with a stock cam but if you ever change the cam you may run into to much lift problems for the cam you want. As well if you are running those rockers you should upgrade your valve springs to be safe.

Are they 1 5/8th's or 1 3/4? The primary opening is 1 5/8 wide but inside it closes off to around 1 1/4. By the number on them can anyone tell if they're ceramic or just steel? Does it matter how many miles are on headers or how much carbon buildup inside? How do you clean it?
Also, would you buy used roller rockers? How can I check if they're in good condition and of good make or what brand they are? Thanks alot, schwindty.

RE: Headers & Roller Rockers Question: PICS!
They look identical to my header which are 1 5/8" ceramic coated BBKs
Depending on how much he wants for them I know they usually go for $200+
I got mine for $100

If they are used ceramic headers, you should be able to wipe them pretty clean and they will be a silverish color. If they aren't bright then they are probaby just the regualar shorties. I went w/ 1.72's that were used and have had no problems so far. If the headers are ceramic, $230 for all. If not, $200.
You will want to get a valve spring kit though. I wouldn't chance it w/ your stockers.... I'm running a E cam w/ 1.72's and a Crane valve spring kit ($130 from summit)...lift is ~.535

You can change the valves with the heads on the car as well, so dont worry about that, they look like scorpion roller rockers, in order to inspect them for wear look at the cups to make sure none are worn through, as well the rollers make sure they roll nice an clean and there is no movement in them. The cermic headers are kick ***, and the gunk in there won't harm anything if you clean it it will build back up in a month. I run BBK headers and have had awesome results.
