Am I getting ripped ??
I just bought a brand new battery for my car "again". This is following my installation of my 140 amp alternator. Now the first thing that kept happening was that my battery kept dying so I went to get a alternator built for me. After installing the battery and alternator the car keeps on draining the battery. I took the car to my local Autozone and had the guy run a tester on my alternator. He said that my alternator was only pushing 12.0.
My question is, if the alternator they built for me is bad would I still be getting a voltage reading? Or does this sound like an electrical short somewhere in the wiring? Can you please provide me with some info that can help me out. If my alternator is good would I get a higher reading from 12.0 ? Thanks

RE: Am I getting ripped ??
Well from my experience I have had a similar instance like yours were I replaced battery and alternator. See if the bolts are tight on the starter solenoid (my car died on the highway, battery was so low that my gauges started fading), after they were tight it started charging and problem fixed. Another problem I had had is there was an open circuit in my car and once I pulled fuse 7, I no longer had a drain. So first check your wires, second check for voltage through the chassis body (disconnect the negative on battery and put probe of the voltage meter on the negative post, and then the other on the chassis), if there is a voltage there is an open circuit.
