Default 5.0 cutting out for no reason?

allright this is the problem, I was driving my 91 to work and it was in 3rd gear and it started to choke, and lose power, and when I down shifted into 2nd to come to a stop, it just turned off. so I turned the key and it started right up again no problem like nothin happened. Then later on that day I was coming to a stop in 1st and it cut out again, but started right up again. then a week went by and it didn't do it, then yesterday I started it up in the morning to let the engine warm up like i always do and the rpm's would go up then down up down like it wanted to stall, so I turned it off, and started it again and it was fine. then today i was just driving (it was raining) and all of a sudden it started to choke and to me it sounded like it just maybe got water in my mufflers (i have dumps) or the intake (BBK) but I think it was doing the same thing. Please help,.....what the hell is wrong with my baby, I can't fricken figure it out. I am going to bring it by ford and put it up on the diagnostic and maybe they can tell me something. Help!

well I'm still stupid, but it sounds to me like its a fuel problem...maybe a malfunction in the fuel pump or perhaps a dirty fuel filter....but i'm always way off target so....

It does sound like fuel bud.. Probally a filter .. But i would rule out rotor either. It always something simple so relax take few breaths hehehhe .So start from the battery back . could even be injectors need to be cleaned .Ok so reply back if you find something else back oke good luck .

My '84 GT has been cutting out like that. Make sure the tach going "up and down" is really the engine, and not the electronics cutting in/out and making the tach go up and down. I was sure my problem was the fuel system, until it quit and the tach went to zero, even though I was rolling in gear. I duplicated the problem by just barely turning back the ignition switch. All the accessories stayed running, but the engine quit and the tach did too. My column switch (not the key lock) must be the culprit. Don't get nuts on the carb first! I know I spent a lot of time on mine getting it to work right.
