Default looking at buying a 5.0...

Hi, I've searched and couldnt find any information on 5.0s, and was hoping you guys could help me out... I have an 87 rx-7 turbo I was using for my dd but im sure you have all heard about rx-7s reliablitly,(its not as bad as you have heard but still not great) exc... well my modding got a little out of hand and I am now getting low teens for gas mileage, have to wait for her to warm up all the time, took out the a/c and power steering and am suffering in the texas heat...

So now im looking to buying a 5.0 after learning of there relativly cheap price and from what ive found respond well to cheap mods...

What can you guys tell my about there reliabability and gas mileage? What to look for when buying? Cheap mods and performance parts?

Does any one know were i can find a review on any of the 5.0s?

Whats the cheapest way to get some speed out of them?

thanks alot guys

um mine gets like 22mpg on the highway when im not beating on it and like 18ish around town but i shift at 2000rpm so its not loud and so i dont get pulled over. but mainly go with a full exaust headers back 2.5" a cold air intake underdrive pullys an ignition system for starters and then go with a bigger MAF and TB (65mm-70mm) and a trickflow intake manifold. that is what im going to do to my car but i just need the MAF, TB, intake manifold, and the cat back oh and you can get gears too

car consumer guige has reviews on all cars

5.0s are cheap. they need work, like any other 10+ year old 'muslce car'. TLC goes a long way.

got my stang for $1800 with 152000 miles. sounds like alot? gotta remember these are cast iron V8's and ALOT of people on this forum have well over 150k on their original 5.0 engines running boost/n2o

main thing to look for is oil leaks. its a v8, they love to eat oil. a properly maintained 5.0 will not smoke on startup/accell/decell/etc although it is common but not a good sign.

you're in texas so im going to skip the rust issues (check floorboards, etc.. dont wanna fall through!)

bring a magnet check for bondo and as always, run a carfax before purchasing.
