Default RE: rebuilding a trans

its all a matter of spending $800-900 to rebuild with super alloy gears and "hoping" it will hold 500hp, and it might
or spend $1,700 or so for a G-Force T-5 or TKO 600 and "knowing" it will hold.

sometimes biting the bullet on extra cost is worth the peace of mind of not worrying about pushing it home some day.

now if you're only going to go 350-400rwhp, sure a super alloy gear set will probably last forever.
just depends on how crazy you want to get and how hard you plan on driving.

personally I plan on putting down 450+rwhp on turbo setup and will go for the G-Force T-5 just for the peace of mind

ORIGINAL: ALL BOTTLE

looked in getting the g-force set holy **** there are expensive. i guess there worth it if they hold up. my hole thing i am in the process of redoing my 91 lx . it needs trans the one that is in it is a borg warner . i would like to rebuild it but to put a little beefer guts in it seems to me will almost cost what i could get a rebuilt world class heavy duty for .in less the super alloy internals are better then the world class rebuilt. then it would be worth it i guess. what would you do

The guy that does the rebuilds for mustangs here in Dallas (Noah) only charges $1450 for the G-Force T5 w/ your t5.... I'm assuming your talking about the Z spec tranny??? It's only rated at 330 tq (300 on the stock T5), so you aren't getting much more out of it. W/ the GForce, you may not have to buy another tranny, depending on your power goals and driving habits....

I'm not sure which super alloy set your talking about, but IF it's the one from D&D performance, it's a joke. My tranny guy called them to see where they get their gearsets and they said Tremec. So he called Tremec b/c he wanted to sell better internals... Tremec told him they only sell one type of gear set for the T5, and that's the same alloy as stock. Now you can upgrade blocker rings and sychros, etc, but don't be fooled by a stronger T5 gearset unless it's the G-Force.

get a manual off ebay for like 18 bucks. just type in tremec. t-5s are the easiest trannys to rebuild.

Hmmm.. I don't know what gear ratio I have then.. I have a 90 Gt so its a WC to start with. But i asked if there was a taller gear option for 1st. They said yes and it was 335 or 2.95 whichever, makes sense that the 295 would be the taller gear. I also replaced the countershaft and they (hanlon) told me that would change the ratios for all the gears.. I guess I should just call them and clarify what I have. It works great whatever it is.. I replaced everything, even the sliders. I put an alum flywheel in it also, which i hate.
