Default help with rear axle seal please?

Guys I have a 94 5.0 with a problem. I was replacing my fuel pump for the 3rd time when i noticed some gear oil inside my driver side rear rim. To make a long story short I pulled the wheel off to replace the axle seal. I also pulled the brakes caliper and rotor off. I also pulled the diff cover off. i pulled out the black nut and the metal pin out of the spider gear housing. I also pulled the spider gears out ( by accident) i can not get the c-clip off the axle to pull the axle out. it is driving me crazy even when pushing the axle in from the end it still dont work....there is some kind of s clip? holding it in. please tell me what to do??? thanks alot guys!!

The s shaped spring has never given me trouble in removing the axles. I have never had to remove it. By pushing in on the axle it doesn't give you enough room to remove the c-clip. I always grab it with either a magnet or a pair of needle nose pliers.

Use the end of the axle to pry out the old seal. (old mechanics trick) Clean the inside of the tibe and then drive the new one in w/ a seal driver if you have one. Pack some bearing grease in the back of the seal to keep the spring from popping out. If you don't have a seal driver, tap it in w/ a hammer lightly going around the seal in a clock style rotation until it is seated evenly in the end of the axle tube.

As far as the spiders, you'll need some patience for those. You have to rotate them both in at the same time and get them even so they are in the correct spot so the axles will slide through both. Make sure yopu put the shims back in also. There shoulda' been one on the back of each spider gear.

I just push the axle in and push out the c-clip to the front of the housing.
it might be easier to get those spider gears in with the carrier out.
if you do take it out make sure the shims go back exactly where they came from.

get ford axle seals much better than aftermarket ones. if you do use aftermarket put light coat of sealant around outside of seal. cheap parts store seals will leak between seal and housing.
