Default n00b question about tires

I plan on buying some rims and tires soon but I still don't understand what something like this means:

215/60/16

Can anyone explain?

215 is the Width of your Tire and 60 is how tall it is!

ORIGINAL: blackmustang94gt

215 is your height of tire overall diameter (outside diameter)... 60 is your tire width ............ and the 16 is your rim diameter...

YES! so one more time:

first number= width

second number= sidewall height

third number= rim size

That doesn't explain it all though.... the sidewall is a % of the width, so a 45 would have a lower profile b/c it is a smaller % of 215. What wheels are you getting tires for? I'm running 245/45/16's on my pony's and they look goooood. The fit flush w/ the side and wheel wells.
