Low fluid in the master cylinder. grounded e-brake switch or harness wire. Fault in the hydraulic system. The first 2 are the most caused.

If the switch sticks closed...there are 3 switches that will cause it to stay lit....E-brake lever, brake fluid level switch and the proportioning valve switch (the one under the master brake cylinder, where all the lines are routed to/from)......

The switch could go bad or the wire running to it could be shorted to ground somewhere.
