Get some victor Jrs. Nice heads, not to bad price, quality is excellent and ported they will flow three-teens easy. thats about as much head as any 5.0 based motor will ever need, especially for the street.

Ive never heard of the TFTW outflowing the 165s...

I have also heard amazing things about the 165s, I'm sold. When you're talking $1100, another $200 isnt that big of a deal...

You can see 400 rwh with a set of cast iron GT40 heads. I'm making that number on a naturally asperated motor. Aluminum heads are nice, and allow for some extra timing, but I can think of alot of things to spend $1300ish on.

Yes Lynch is totally right, for stock Cast iron heads, the GT-40's are really nice. Flow very good ported and matched to a ported lower Cobra intake its a force to be reconed with. And with an Edelbrock rpm efi intake, thats a even nicer set up.

What cubic inch? Compression? Carb or EFI?

I wouldnt bother with the 165 head. Might as well get the 185. Personally Im going with 225 heads for my ranger build.
Titanium, you might want to look into the Trickflow twisted wedge head, you wont have to modify the lower end at all, i.e. gettin the pistons flycut, that in it self will be a ton of savings as you wont have to have it machined to accept those heads. Im sold on the TFS heads, back in the day my friends and I put a lot of these heads on stangs, seemed like everyone we did was a bolt on at least 100HP. Just my .02

So why bother w/ the 165's if the TW's are cheaper and flow better?
From what I've seen, I think the AFR's keep up better over .500 and for boosted applications. I've also been told that the intake ports make for higher air velocity, but that's neither here nor there..... IMO, you can't go wrong w/ either, as long as you're buying the TW's new, not used. A used pair has a chance of being an older model before they corrected some of the valvetrain issues (fixed a couple of years ago).

347 Stroker. FMS X Cam. GT40 Heads. Edelbrock Dualquad intake w/ 2x Holly 390 carbs. MSD Ignition,
The carbs added 60 rwh. No guff, I scrapped the EFI last month and picked up massive power. Seems the factory timing curve doesn't work well with modified displacement motors. [:-]

I had a Crane Interceptor (similar to todays PMS), but, heh... the dyno time involved in tuning one is astronomical.

I had gotten as far as I was going to go with EFI. The cost per horsepower was just not indusive to my wallet. So, the day the MOT designated 87 and older cars emissions exempt, I jumped around like a little school girl and tore out the EFI.

I now make real, reliable, easily tunable horsepower for under $5000. I've got all the respect in the world for guys that are sucessfull with EFI, I just don't have the patience for it myself.... or the wallet.
