It's actually BAD for your synchro's, which are a vital part of your transmission, to slap the shifter into gears. Trying to shift as fast as you possibly can does that. You want to make sure the clutch is FULLY depressed BEFORE you leave a gear and keep it FULLY depressed until you're FULLY into the next gear. This may sound like childs play but a lof of people shift incorrectly. And it's easy to do! When you shift...you depress the clutch and put it into the next gear all in the same motion. When in all actuallity is should be "clutch in, shift, clutch out" Boom Boom Boom!
Someone I work with used to race back in the day like 70s or so. I was told that double clutching allows the trans and the ground speed of the car to match up. It is harder on the clutch, but easier on the syncros.... So I was told.
