what can i put into this 302
I have a 1987 mustang that I got from a friend and was wondering how can I get more power from the 302. The odd thing is the motor in it right now is from a 1987 thunderbird and it also has the 87 tbird computer and is not mass air. Can I convert this motor into a 302HO if so what will I need, and can I use GT-40 heads w/o mass air? Thanks in advance

don't think you can covert the standard 302 into a high output because the standard block is not machined for a roller cam which is the main difference in the high output version. you could increase the power with other bolt-ons and a different cam with more lift, etc but the block will still be the standard 302 block. all the other 5.0 bolt ons will fit this block except for the cams.

Thanks for the quick reply, so I would have to find a HO block to make a roller motor. Would it be cheaper in the long run with bolt-ons or to find a complet HO w/computer in a junk yard? Thanks in advance

you could still build a strong motor from the non roller 302 block with the right components added to it, it all depends on what power level you want as to which block would be the best one to use. give the Ford Tech line a call at 586-468-1356 and see what advice they give you. before you call, find the engine serial number on the motor you have first so they know exactly what you have. I know there are differences such as the metal alloy in the blocks, and web thicknesses, deck thickness, etc between them but don't really know the specific differences between the two.
