Default Wont stop trying to start

Every once in a while when I try to start my car the starter stays engaged after the engine starts. I have replaced the solenoid twice and it has a new starter and battery. Basically when it sticks there is no way to stop the starter unless you disconnect the battery cable or just wait about 15 seconds and it will stop on its on. I tried turning the key to the off position and even taking the key out of the car, but that has no affect. I am thinking my next step should be to replace the ignition switch..anyone have any input?

have you checked the ignition switch in the steering column
or the starter soleniod. And just cuz the starter is new doesn't mean it can't be defective. I have installed plenty of defective parts over the years.

The last time it happend I tried to pull the wire off the solenoid that connects the ignition switch to the solenoid..the starter kept going even with that wire disconnected.

Not the trigger wire causing it to stick. It could be the soleniod sticking itself. Next time it happens, try wraping on the solenoid w/ something to see if it stops.

But wouldnt that rule out the ignition switch being bad?

The solenoid could just be hooked up backwards. I bought a new one once at the parts store and it looked exactly like the stock one, but the posts were reversed,
