Maybe this will help:
'87-'93....uses BP/MAP sensor.......'94+...no BP/MAP sensor used
'87-'93....ECM pinout is different to '94+
'87-'93....Individual FP, EEC relays and mech rad fan.......'94+...relays consolidated in the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM) + electric fan relays included.
'87-'93....ACT/IAT sensor on intake manifold.....'94+...IAT sensor on MAF housing/air duct
'87-'93....EGR exhaust passages inside lower/upper intake & TB....'94+...external EGR tube hooked to RH header
'87-'93....Light.....'94+....too heavy
'87-'93....Auto tranny's are not computer controlled (AOD).....'94+....Auto tranny's are computer controlled (AODE)
'87-'93....Timing cover is the same style old windsors - fuel pump hole....'94...timing cover used is the Explorer/Mountaineer style + WP is different than '87-'93, but still reverse rotation (CCW)
5.0 engines are the same between both styles and their differences in forged vs. hypereutectic pistons (93+)...........and other stuff.
