Default Serp Belt replacment, First Timer!

First time ive done this on a car, so wondering if anyones got some advice, i need to change my alternator as well , so were do i start? Do i just take off the alternator to get the belt off, of should i take of the belt first by adjusting the tensioner? And same for putting it back together, should i but on the alternator and then stick on the belt, or slide on the belt to the alternator, then put it into place? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks- danny

the tensioner pulley has a nut on it u put your appropriate size socket on it and a breaker bar and pull it up.. then u remove the belt and do your alternator change

+1. The belt should come off first, and then go on last. What kind of Stang are you putting this on? My 94 5.0 was a bit of a pain to put back on, but the V6s seem to have some more room to work with

+1 and don't forget to diagram how the belt is routed. Nothing worse than getting your alt back on and finding out you have no clue how the belt is supposed to go.

the tensioner should have a 1/2 inch square recessed in it to alleviate the tension on the belt, just use a 1/2 inch ratchet or 1/2inch breaker bar

Dont try to take the alt off first or you'll have to duck and cover. The best has over 100 ft. lbs. of tension on it. Just do what the others said.
