Unless you're a mechanic, or are pretty good with cars, I wouldn't recommend it.

the hardest part is getting the exhaust off.

you need a clutch kit about $200 for something decent
you need to resurface the flywheel $35
might as well do the rear main seal $10

for a shop to do it ??? i'm sure $500-$800 maybe more.

do it yourself, and put new exhaust and a new shifter while your at it , then you can just cut the old exhaust off, and save some time.

realistically you can do it in 1 single day, after you've done it, you can do it in about 2 hours from start to finish.

its not real bad, you have to go to a parts store and buy the spline tool that slides in the clutch disc and sits in the pilot bearing hole, then bolt the pressure plate on, this ensures the clutch disk is centered. Kinda sucks layin on your back, not to mention the driveshaft removal, the exhaust etc.

I just did mine a couple of weeks back. I opted for a new flywheel, as a first timer it took me about 6 hours start to finish. I know some stuff about cars but if you can read a manual you can do it. Its not too bad just a dirty job. I also read on an earlier post to drain the trans fluid before you pull the trans..... widh I would have knowen that "before" lol. When you pull the driveshaft and angle the trans down the fluid goes "everywhere"! Keep some kitty litter handy too. Good Luck!

If you can install headers or an intake manifold on one of these cars, a clutch isn't much harder. Just take your time the first time and be patient. It also helps to have a floor jack handy to lower the trans, or another person to help with the heavy lifting, but T-5's aren't even that heavy. Good luck.

ok cool , thanks every one. im lookin in to buying a car, and the clutch just went, so now i have to wait longer to get it for him to get a mechanic to replace it. i was gonna just buy it for what hes askin (minus the price to install a clutch), but i think since ive been waitin this long (ive wanted one for what seems like forever, and acutally have been tryin for about 6 months) i can wait an extra week and just let him have it professionally installed.
