Default CODE 176 on a 1995' GT

I have a 1995 GT with just 100,000 miles on it. I have an off road H-pipe into 2 chambered Flows. Just recently the check engine light has been coming on. It does not come on immediately, it waits until I have driven about 5 miles and does not shut off until I turn the car off. I can shut it off, restart it, and it will stay off for several minutes.

I ran the test using a paper clip to bridge the test connectors as seen on fordfuleinjection.com and cam up with a continues memory code of 176. The webpage shows this code to be: 176 HEGO shows system always lean (front side).

I have traced down through a google search to be related to my oxygen sensors. When I put the H-pipe on over three years ago, I put the original sensors into the new off road pipe.

What I cannot remember is, are the sensors in front of or behind the front converters on a stock pipe? Do I have 2 other O2 sensors in the headers somewhere? What does the code actually mean? What is the (front side)?

The car actually runs perfect even though the light is on, but the light is annoying and I want to make sure I am not going to do any damage driving it while the condition exists that is causing the light to be triggered.

Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Default RE: CODE 176 on a 1995' GT

kevinj45, those cars only have a total of 2 O2 sensors, one on each side so I dont know why it says front. I would say the code means the sensors are reading a lean mixture and would compensate for that by adding more fuel, or they could be bad. I believe the usual replacement interval for Os sensors is 75,000 miles.
