EDIT : So I should back out the one infront of the shifter (towards the engine) or the one behind the shifter (towards my rear end)?
What exactly does this do?

RE: Tranny guys : LOOK HERE
You will have to take those 4 screws out, they hold down the shift boot(the rubber thing) Then under that you should be able to see the tranny. There will be 4 bolts running vertical on each of the corners of the shifter base...leave those alone. There will be 2 more running horizontal if it is an aftermarket shifter. They stop the shifter from going too far forward towards the motor and too far back towards the rear. You can't miss them. I would take and turn the front one out most of the way so the shifter doesn't hit it at all and take it out for a drive and see it it helps, just don't hit 3rd and 5th gear really hard cus there is no stop. If that helps, take the shifter and put it in first gear while it is running and shut it off and leave it in gear. Then adjust the stop up the the shifter, but leave about 1/16" of a gap. I hope that helps.....wheew

The console is in the way of the bolts. It looks like alot of it is one big unit. Where do I start taking it off at? It feels pretty solid, where do I start?

The console? You have a couple screws up be the glove box, couple under the steering colum trim. Then you have to take off the arm rest and there are 2 screws back there and probably a couple more I don't remember....Not too bad....just don't pull too hard on anything.
