Fuel Relay or Fuel Pump?

Fuel Relay or Fuel Pump?
I have a 88 Convertable LX. My problem is what I thought to be the fuel relay. I have to unhook the battery everytime I turn off the engine, otherwise if i dont you hear humming in the back and what seems to be fuel being pumped to the engine and the smell of gas when the car is turned off. Today I went and disconnected the relay in the trunk and reconnected the battery and wow its still humming, what seems to be fuel pumping to the engine, and the smell of gas. So my thought is maybe the fuel pump, but my other thought is that there might be another relay in the front under the hood that I just can not see.
