airpocket
My car runs really warm no matter the time of year and i'vr replaced everything but the block. could this be an airpocket ? How do I tell if it is and how do i remove it. Can you guys also explain if it would cause the water to back out the radiator with the cap off.

RE: airpocket
It is normal for coolant to flow out of the rad cap, once it starts heating up. Expansion is part of getting warmer.
If you post all of the changes you have made, others may be able to help a little more.
Air pockets tend to cause intermittent temp fluctuations.
Now the real questions for you...
What is the coolant temp?
How are you checking the temp?
What Tstat are you using?

RE: airpocket
when my car was stock it had this problem. It would run warm ( all the way to the m on normal) it blew the waterpump then 3 months later it blew heatercore. I put a new waterpump on it I installed heatercore then replaced t-stat with stock t-stat. Still ran warm so I tried lower T-stats but still ran warm. checked electrickfan but it works and comes on at temp. I assumed it was a blown head so I bought trickflow streatheat topend kit ( new heads, cam, r-rockers, intake) the whole nine yards but problem still around. Now what do I do?

RE: airpocket
you remove air pocket by flushing system, then refill with hose off
of outlet on intake ( top most point on engine ) and refill till you see coolant
come out that port.
that will fill your block. also if your head gaskets were put on backwards
that can block a water passage.
stupid thing to check.......... is your fan blowing in the right direction?
it should be blowing towards the engine and sucking air thru the radiator

RE: airpocket
After I replaced the thermostat in my 97 explorer I had a hard time releasing the airpocket(s)... I finally took it to a radiator shop and then ended up putting it on some sort of vacuum thingy to extract the air pocket... might want to check it out if you have a really rough time like I did.

Since you have installed new Tstats and have seen no change in coolant temps, I suspect it is the gauge/sending unit.
