Default T 56 or TKO 500/600

I'm building a 351w stroked to 408 or 427 and want a manual. its going in a 1969 mustang convertible and it will be more driver than racer. i simply want it to be a blast to drive and atleast stay with some of the modern sports cars.

builder suggested that tko 500/600 doesnt shift as well as T56.

what do you guys think?

I'm assuming I will have anywhere from 400 to 500 hp and approximately the same torque.

thanks for your help/thoughts.

T-56 is the best but cost the most, they put those in everything from Vipers to Aston Martins.

nothing wrong with TKO 500/600 either.

Also you can get T-5's with "G-Force" internals that are good to 500-600hp

www.ddperformance.com
www.astroperformance.com

pretty much comes down to budget. if you can afford $3k+ get the T-56
if you only want to spend $2k or less get the G-Force T-5 or TKO.

Thanks for the links!

I'm not too concerned with the 6th gear for road stuff as the TKO can give me a .64 top gear [versus .50 with T56]----although it would be nice when on the highway.

i'm more worried about how they each shift and which is better for my purposes. i likley will run it down the track as some point, but mostly it will be fun for driving and leaving some black marks.

Money is an object, but for this car, that i'll likely keep forever, i want to make the right choice and a few hundred dollars is not a huge deal at this point [1800 for tko 600 and 2500 for T56.]

thanks for the reply.

I have a t-56 in my fox and I love it. Shifting is very easy with the t-56, I have a b&m pro ripper short throw and there is almost no effort needed to go between the gears.

tko's are more than 2k 1800 for the tranny alone and like another 1000 on other parts

i dont expect to have much luck there===honestly that is likely the main reason for getting the 302 out ==== can hardly turn the wheels now.

Traction who cares about traction. Just put the stickiest tire you can find on the rear (i've fit 285 on my 69) have fun with the mods.

(by the way nice car)

thanks for the posting----i love the car---exactly what i was looking for in terms of "looks", but now i'm working to get it to be as fun to drive as it is to look at.

i always wanted a muscle car---with the 302 it looks the part but doesnt run like a true "muscle car"

looking forward to the build!!
