Default Thermostat-gona go buy one right now- opinions please!

Does anyone have any experience with the company Stant and their thermostats?

I called the one shop I trust around here and all they have is a Stant "Superstat" 180*. It's $9.99 without a gasket, the gasket's $1.50...

The price seems a little low for a "quality" thermostat but NO ONE else around here has ANYTHING and I'd have to wait till Wednesday to get anything else if I ordered today.

I don't want anything crapping out on me. I don't have the time or the patience for bad thermostats hehe .

Hmmm, think I'm running a Stant right now. Got it at Napa I think. So far, so good, I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't forget the black RTV Silicone.

Alright, well, if you're running a helion 5.0 with that stat then I'm sure it'll be fine.

Do you know if it has a hole or do I have to burp the system afterwards?

BTW- How long does the black RTV silicone take to cure?

Thanks sanchez

Mine didn't have a weep hole in it. You could drill one if you wanted, but I didn't mess with it. I burped mine just to be safe. I let it sit for a good 30-45 minutes before starting it back up. Make sure you scrape all of the old gasket off as well.

Well, I'm in Los Angeles, it never gets under 50* in the winter, and I don't have money for another car... this is my daily. Plus, I heard running a cooler stat could increase engine wear and make it run rich if it doesn't get to it's 180* loop.

fail safe t stat from auto zone for $12... high quality and guaranteed not to block coolant flow in the event of a failure... 160 is too low... i run 180 as well as most of the guys here in upstate NY w/ 5.0's ...jmo

A $10 stat should be high enough quality. Mr Gasket makes good ones too, but they aren't available everywhere. I also would NOT run a stat cooler than 180*....it can cause other issues.

remember 160 deg puts the computer into warm loop, and when u run a 160deg t-stat your engine temp ACTAULLY reaches anywhere between 170-180 deg ..

180 deg t-stat puts yoru engien near the 200 deg mark before the cooling begins

failsafes are GREAT to use.. I still stand behind a 160 temp I always have used them and there are no issues just more safty to keep the engine cooler but still in great running operating temp!
