Charge R134 myself, or have it done?

Charge R134 myself, or have it done?
What are the advantages of taking my car in to have my R134 recharged, versus going to an autoparts store and buying a can of the stuff and charging it myself. Keep in mind that the A/C has not worked since I bought the car. I just figure that if it's going to leak, I'd rather spend $20 or whatever, than spend $85 to have a shop charge it. Will filling it myself hurt anything? Thanks.

Dude, I just replied to your other thread...
If it's blowing hot and cold, then it's just low on R12....if all hot, then it could be alot of things but you got nothing to lose that route...

Oh, schitt, then what's the dilimma?? You can guy the R134 a at friggin' Walmart (cheapest place anywhere for that crap) and a can of stopleak from any part store and I betcha good $ that it will hold and blow cold.
If' it's been converted to R134 then it's a walk in the part Kazanski. Even if he's got a leak, the stop leak should hold it. The only way it won't is if there's a rock through the GD front end of the car.
My bust Pro, I just jumped in the Kool Aid and didn't know the flavor.
Just trying to help the buddy,

Just go get it charged by the pros, do you know how much freon is in there right now?? Do you know how much oil is in there? Do you know if you have air in your lines??? I bet not, go get it professionally done and feel good about it in the long run.
