as far as fuel consumption goes, go with the 3.55's they are a good all around gear
3.73's are a little hard on gas, i know b/c i have 'em
but ur H/C/I combo doesnt help w/ gas either [8D]

is it the speedo pinion gear that you need when you redo the gears?

The driven gear is what people usually talk about. You might need to change the drive gear if you can't get a good combo w/ what's in there(prolly 8 tooth, maybe 7).

I drive pretty hard & I still get 16-18mpg. If I let up, I can hit 20, and the last x-country trip I took, I got 32.5mpg(75-80mph mostly, with a run up to 147) on the way back
