Default Speedometer noise

Hi guys, I'm sure someone else other then me has had thier speedometer drive them friggin crazy, I guess its the cable or something that needs oil, sounds more like plastic parts rubbing though. The damn instrument cluster is a bitch to get out. Does anyone know a better way to shut this damn thing up?

Ok, I guess this was either a dumb question, or nobody knows what I'm talking about.

i lnow what you are talking about, never fixed it though, ended up replacing the cable and speedometer for other reasons...but honestly, the instrument cluster isn't hard to get out, just pop the switches out towards you, disconnect, and disconnect the dimmer, two screws under the windshield and a few under the plastic trim that pops off under the steering wheel. The annoying thing is you have to pull the cluster away a little, then disconnect everthing so you can remove it. Anywas, I'm sure thats no help, but if you do it, let me know if the sound goes away for if/when mine starts again.

speedo cables use a special grease that keeps them quiet but won't freeze up and break the cable in cold weather. you have to pull the instrument cluster like gmkilla says and then unplug the speedo cable. you can then remove the inner cable and inspect it for broken wires and if there aren't any, you can put some grease on it as you reinsert in to make the noise go away.

Well, that worked. LOL, I took the whole thing out, pulled off the cable, and drowned that bastard with oil, then squirted a few drops where it connects inside the speedometer. NO NOISE!!! YEAH!!!!!

What kind of after market instrument clusters do they make? Never even looked.
