if you're gonna do a 351, why not just SC your 302, or if you have a fuely, why not just turbo it? More power, less weight... also, it would be much easier to just stroke your 302.... you'ld be cheaper and better off doin that.

the 351 is more reliable at higher hp numbers.
so if you stroked a 351 and put a blower on it you could easily make over 600rwhp.
with the right supporting mods of course.

You can tuck a 351W under a stock hood.

for a 351 swap you need 351 swap headers, a dual sump oil pan and thats about it.
everything else bolts right up if you have a complete 351.
if you just have a shortblock, you need a 351 distributor and lower intake, and oil pump.
all of the front accessories are a direct fit.

Hmm...anyone know a good reliable site to check out a 351 swap?? Or a 351 kit (watever the damn thing is called) but they fit well when u swap a 302 to a 351 correct??

Idk its not something that I want to do now really especially cuz I just bought a 93' with only 72k miles for 4900, but maybe a nice birthday present to myself next May.

It sounds like a lot to change and put in but I can imagine itd be well worth it with all that power.

A FEW QUICK QUESTIONS FROM THE NOOB THO!? (I apologize for my ingorance in advance lol)

1. Wats a stroker, or if you "stroke" a 351??
2. Is a 351 and a 351W the same thing?? If not wat are the differences??
3. Sgt_pepper said something about a fuely, wtf is that??
4. Cobra with a KB and sbc swaps, someone please explain??

..thanks in advance or for the patience everyone has while I ask stupid questions, most forums just flame while you guys actually help me learn!

1. You are adding stroke (larger crankshaft) to gain cubic inch. 383, 393, 408, 418, 427 are common 351 strokers.
2. 351W is the common 351. There is also a 351C & 351M. You just stick with the 351W.
3. fuel injected
4. Cobra w/ a KB = DOHC 4.6 modular motor with a Kenne Bell blower, sbc = small block chevy. Again, you just stick with the 351W.

you can do any engine swap if you have enough money and time.
stroke is the distance the piston travels up and down and bore is the diameter of the piston hole.
stroker motors refer to increased displacement without changing the engine block.

a stock 302 has a 4.000 inch bore, and a 3.000 inch stroke with 4.090 inch connecting rods
with the same block you can go as big as 349 cubic inches, a 4.040 inch bore and 3.4 inch stroke with 5.4 inch connecting rods.

for the 351 you can get as big as 427 cubic inches, dont know the specs.

most common are a 396 or a 408
the s96 uses stock 302 rods and pistons with a 3.8 inch stroke(I think)

351w stands for windsor, made in windsor ontario, and there is a 351 cleveland, made in cleveland ohio.
they are different blocks and are not interchangable for parts.

cleveland motors are harder to find parts for.
and I think cleveland blocks have 4 bolt mains

some people have put chevy engines in a stang, dont know why, but it has been done.
the pic of the mustang with the supercharged 5.4 litre modular motor is from a 2003 cobra.

so the easiest is to just stroke your 302, but the stock 302 block will only handle around 500hp before it splits the block in 2 pieces.
the 351 can handle alot more hp reliably, there are a few guys here with stroker motors, mabye they can chime in here.
randy78045 is running a 408 stroker and is making 400+ hp at the wheels on motor.

Here's some links the 351W swap.
http://www.fast351.com/tech/351w.htm
http://www.mspmall.com/ddautospec/swapkits.html

351W can be stroked out to 393 or 408 or 427ci ........ no replacement for displacement

benifets of the 351W is that it is a MUCH stronger block and not prone to the flexing
and head gasket leaking problems the 302 block has in high hp applications.

351W is the engine the 302 wished it was.
It's actually not that hard to do the swap and doesnt cost that much
most times you can install a 351W cheaper then overhauling your 302 to a 347 and
have stronger engine at the same time.

351 is a 351W, W stands for windsor, they also made a 351C "cleveland" but you dont see those around much

Fuely means you need a gas card with big credit limit, lol

The Cobra w/ KB is in regards to picture I posted of a 2003 Mustang Cobra engine installed
in a 5.0, it also had the KennBell (KB) blower on it.

Woahhhh, haha sorry this'll take me some time to learn all that. I mean its one thing to read it another to understand, but with the VERY USEFUL info ya'll gave me it shouldn't be too hard. Thanks to everyone who hooked me up with them by the way!

Anyways, it def sounds like the 351W (ha I kno wat that means now!?) is the way to go in terms of performance and heavy modding! Still not too clear on the stroker ordeal but that's why people invented google. (The guy did a really good job of explaining it tho!)

Oh and big ups to the man that gave my the links!!!

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!
