I have 18's on my sig with 285's. I actually like 315 on an SN95.
But wait you have 16 on a GT? is it the delux model?

my buddy has 18x10 rear with a 295 tire and its perfectly flush also. Idk i saw one with a 10.5" rim and a 315 tire and it was sticking out past the fender...

If there's clearance issues with a 315 tire in the back, i've heard you can just turn the quad shocks around for more clearance

Decisions Decisions Decisions 
I might just go with 17x9's and run 245/45's on it......
That should be wide enough and since it's stock it should ride will and retain the original height....
Still debating though.
