Idle Problems
Hey i got a 1986 gt. when i start the car up the car doesnt idle at a straight rpm. it goes up and down repeatedly... I unplugged the idle air control sensor when it was running and the rpm's stopped jumpin up and down. I assume this is what i need to replace. Where could i find one of these? also in an older 5.0 magazine it said to get a "Idle Adjustment Plate" which says it will fix idle lope problems...but i have never heard of this piece. what should i do

RE: Idle Problems
Suggested to-do list:
- Resetting the base idle - Setting the TPS voltage (Setting it between .8vdc - 1.0vdc is OK) - Timing calibration - Finding possible vacuum leaks. - How to run a KOEO, KOER Self-Test codes scan and Cylinder Balance Test If your '86 is still speed density, ignore the MAF procedures. The IAC bypass plate is offered by Steeda and Ford dealers......suggest you go through the procedures above though, since the bypass plate is not a "fix-it-all" part,....... if you have other problems in the EEC-IV system....the idle will continue to have problems. http://www.steeda.com/store/images/f...idlebypass.jpg |

RE: Idle Problems
Make sure its full of coolant. The '86 especially, will "hunt" for an idle when the coolant level is low.
