transmission swap help needed
Hi,
I am new to forum and need help on a possible tranny swap. The aod transmission on my 1990 mustang gt conv. went out for the second time since I've owned the car (since 91). I really would like to put a 5 speed in it. Can I get a complete list of everything that will be needed? How difficult is this whole process? Has anyone done this before and how did it turn out? Do you have to change the gearing in the rearend or can the stock gears stay? Thanks in advance.

I myself do not have any personal experience with this but I know there are a few people out there who have done the swap and said it was not that hard and came out great. I believe someone sells a conversion kit but I am not sure who.
Also, you do not have to change the gearing in the rear for the swap. It would be a good idea to upgrade them though eventually.

It's been two years now; so I might forget something......
T5 trans, clutch, pressureplate, flywheel, flywheel bolts
Manual pedal assembly
T5 wiring harness from trans to under dash harness(snakes from under console, under carpet & around driver's side seat to left front kick panel area).
Clutch cable
Manual speedo cable assembly(the gear used is the only thing that may be different, i can't remember).
I think that's about it..... I'm sure someone can chime in about anything i may have forgotten.....

You need a bell housing, flywheel, clutch kit, linkage for the clutch, crossmember, trans mount, speedo cable and gear, back up light wiring harnesss, slip yoke, driveshaft, shifter handle, boot & trim ring and a shift ****. TKO 500 or 600 will work for you. their is a link above that can get you to Keisler auto, a distributor.

It's not a tough swap at all. Hardest part is getting all the AOD crap out. I also have some swap stuff if you are interested. Also, go here
http://www.westcoastfords.com/articl...ap/t5swap.html It's a decent write up of the swap and there are some good pics.
I have few parts if you are interested.
Pro 5.0 short shifter (500 miles)
T-5 Bellhousing w/ pivot ball and clutch fork

the pedal assembly is the hardest, 3 hrs of labor.
tranny 2 hours more. Exahsut is a pain in the azz! can take up to 5 hrs to remove without cutting things, i find it faster, to cut whats in your way and have it replaced at the exhaust shop for under $100.00

I think the gears in the rear will be advantageous over stock 5 speed 5.0s I think the autos had 3.23 gears and the manuals had 3.08 gears....

My AOD notch originally had 2.73 [:'(], but I now have 4.10 .
