Default Need ballpart estimate on

I convertedmy 4cyl mustang to 5.0 recently. The 5.0 was from a 1988 Cougar . They are factory rated at 155 hp @ 3400rpm & 265 lb @ 2200rpm . Here are only mods:

Heddman Longtube headers ,X-pipe withcheap turbo mufflers , removed smog pump , removed a/c compressor, replaced fan withan electric one , performance plugs, wires , distributor cap , K&N filter .

So can anyone give me a ballpart estimate on how much Hp/Trq I have gained here? I know its a question people ask alot but I have $0 left after the swap ,so I can't dyno it. I had a friend Desktop dyno it and I'de have to say the increase it showed was alittle unreasonable in my opinion. Also I plan to convert to mass air in a few months. What kind of gain could I expect. We haven't finished the wiring yet so I haven't got it started. probably will this week. Oh and I still have the 4cyl rear end in it to. It will be fun while it lasts I guess then I'll swap in the 8.8.

You didn't gain that much hp, and if you've driven it you probably know that. The headers and exhaust, electric fan, filter, etc. really help, and the MAF I think you'll be pleased with.

The problem is heads and intake. I did all the stuff I could afford at the time, as you mentioned, on my '93 5.0. I only wish that I had saved my money and got the real performance parts that make a big difference. A good set of aftermarket heads and intake. I got gears, they help also, but you can't make hp with enemic stock heads and intake. Get it completed, drive and enjoy it, and save your bucks while thinking about how cool it will be with the new heads and intake.

Yeah i mean I knew it wasn't a big gain , I was just curious about how much it might have been. Like 170 or so maybe? I actually bought a intake from a 92 cobra about 3 hours after I left the first post. My friend that works at the mustang salvage yard got in a wrecked one so he called me and I snagged the intake for $150. Heads are actually the very next thing on my list. I bid on some steel GT40 heads on ebay a few weeks ago but i lost. Hopefully some good heads will pop up in a few months when i have some more money. I knew the things i did wouldn't make a huge difference butthey were things i had to do anyway. fan was busted in the wreck , plugs and wires were old . Had to get new exhaust because it was a 4 banger before. So they were things I had to do . i was just curious as to what kind of numbers I gained in the process. Just wish i could put a cam in it.

If he sold you the intake, see if he will sell you the heads. The Cobra motor has iron GT-40's on them.

Yeah I tried. The guy that works for him already got the rest of the engine. He said the only reason he sold me the intake anyways is because he was going to use a gt40.I called him this morning to ask about the windshield because I have a crack in mine from a rock. Scored the windshield for $20 . I'm going to try to sell parts from the cougar and my old 4 banger engine and see if I can get enough to bid on some heads.

I wish i could get the E-303 cam . I can't though cause my pistons don't have valve reliefs . it sucks. And I don't have enough cash to get pistons ,and the time to take the whole engine apart again . My original plan was to get the whole systemax package but that was before I found out the engine I had was a piece of garbage. So basically all i can do for now is get some heads andput on myintake .I wanted to put a cam in badthough . I hope this thing is going to have atleast alittle more power. My friends keep wanting to race me when it's finished and they all drive ricemobiles . One has a Sunfire with a bunch of crap done to it and my other friend michael has a ZX2 he has done some junk to. Neither are to impressive but the ZX2 is actually pretty mean. he raced a guy at my old school who had a 92 Gt and won. Of course it was probably the most abused and beat up mustang I've ever seen though. Thats the thing these days , ricers only want to race cars they know they can beat. Like broken down Mustangs or other cars that could smoke them if they were in decent condition. It was halarious about a year ago these kids pulled up to my mustang behind a pizza place here in town. They were driving a brand new WRX and they kept talking about smoking my mustang and all this other crap. I was like dude , it's a 4 cyl and I already know it's slow. I told them they wouldn't want any if I had a 5.0 ( even though they would still have a pretty good chance). So anyways they revved up their engine till it was about to blow up, said some stuff about my car being a piece of ***t andflew around the corner and I heard SCREEEEEEEEEECH.....BANG!!! I was like what the crap , so i ran around and looked and HHHHHAHAHAHAHA they had rammed into the back of the freaking pizza supply truck. It was parked sideways next the the building were they were stocking the store or something and the kids had ran right into the back bumper of the semi and wedged their car between it and the building !!They tore the whole left front fender off and I swear they car was just totalled on the one side that hit the building. I swear its a true story! They could have freaking killed the delivery guys if they had been out there. I don't hate ricers that just like fixing their cars up or whatever , it's just the mentality. Turning a nice car into a piece of junk , or turning a piece of junk into a even bigger piece of junk with flashing lights and starting crap with people just trying to drive home. I want to just get some more power in my car so iwon't be afraidof going 30 mph up a hill with people honking behind me , and just so i can play around with it. Not to terrorize people at redlights constantly. maybe every once in a while , but not every freaking kid I pull up next to.

There's alot of people on this site who know about cams, I'm not that familiar. But I do believe that a stock 5.0 H.O. will fit, and it's no slouch. Lots of folks run after market heads and intake with the stock H.O. cam.

So a stock cam from an H.O. should fit my engine you think? I can get one really easy and cheap. I just wish i'de known before I put the engine in. I have no Idea whats involved in changing a cam , how hard is it to do while the engine is in the car? Or can it be done at all? I wish I hadn't been stupid and bought the car i did. If i had thought about it I would have realized it was a piece of junk. better than a 4 banger though I guess
