I was just on Summits Site. Where are the cheap long blocks. The cheapest one I saw was still a few hundered over $1000. Mustang Parts Inc. in GA has complete used motors from Carb to Oil Pan in stock for $650. Unless I mised a link which is possible. Usually I can never see something thats right in front of me.

get a new 5.0 block (cheap) and do a stock replacement rebuild...
I think he means buy all the parts and put it together yourself.
If you've never put a motor together before, get someone who has to help, because their experience will be handy. It's not really that hard to do, just have to have a lot of patience.

For what is worth, I recommend buying a new long block over buying a used motor. The new block will probably have a warranty, something I doubt the used motor will (unless it's a really good junkyard) The new block will last longer too, and you know it hasn't been abused, so you get to do it all True, the new long block will cost more, so your finances will probably be the deciding factor. But as the Fram guy says...You can pay me now (new block), or pay me later (buying another used motor again).

And if I was buying a used block I wouldn't put new parts into it without having it machined and that costs extra money too.

Impound yard auctions. I have seen a complete 'stang 5.0 go for 150 dollars. Call the towing services in your area and ask if they auction off cars. Some police departments have impound auctions as well. The initial "hit" for towing causes a lot of people to hesitate on picking up the car. Then the storage fees kick in and they lose interest in the car.
