im in california too but im too cheap to pay some one $200 bux. i need my smog pump because with the sc i need a pulley there other wise the belt wouldnt be able to route properly. i could get an idler pulley but why spend the money. 461rwhp and all i need to do to pass smog is put my cats in and hook the smog pump up. right now the pump is in but no hoses are hooked up to it so it just pumps air into the space

its possible that when you pulled the smog pump, you forgot to plug the pipe coming from the back of the heads. the hole in the back of the heads are connected dirrectly to the exhaust ports in the heads......thats how the fresh air is pumped in for the first 2 cats. you may have also smelled emissions because the air pump is designed to help the cats work better so if the cats arent working right of course you will smell emissions
