changing thermostat to 160

RE: changing thermostat to 160
run a 180* thermo... 160 is too low... most guys switch to 180* if they redo thier cooling system or have mods.. remember the car doesn't run at the thermo temp... thats when the thermo opens and the coolant starts to flow through the system. stock temp guages and oil pressure guages aren't very accurate either...

Extra stress and wear on the engine. There is a reason the stock is 195, 35 degrees less it can turn out dramatic. 160 is just not the recommended, running the engine to cool. 180 seems to be what I hear, is what you want.

If your coolant is running too high its not as a result of the t stat. There is a problem with your cooling system somewhere. (the collant is old or too thin, fan, clutch, rad.............) They came stock with a 195* cause thats ideal operating temp. Your computer runs rich until your engine reaches that temp. Running a 180* or 160* only means its going to take longer for your computer to lean out. Which in turn means worse gas milage and the potiential for other issues later on.

the 160 stat can make the car run in closed loop meaning a rich condition..remember some heat is nec. and the stock stat may just start to open at 195..I use only the mr gasket 180 as it's fully open at 180 and has a bigger offic for more flow and also has the small hole in it so you don't have to burb the coolant system it's 8.50 at autozone
