Default Ballpark costs

I was wondering if anyone happens to know ball part costs figures and mods needed for 2 seperate possible builds. I'll be having a mechanic do most the work so I'd love estimates on labor there. This would be street racing and doesn't need to be a daily driver as I have a motorcycle if necessary for that, although I would like to use it 2-3 days out of the week on the street.

1. Keeping up with my friend's Buick Grand National.

2. Keeping up with my other friend's 420+ rwhp 350z turbo.

I've seen heads on some of the websites as low as $950 or so why are these half the price of the others?

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Well, you could do a H/C/I kit with some forced induction (i.e. turbo or supercharger). H/C/I kit is about 2500 bucks, a nice 10 psi supercharger is going to be about 2,500 bucks also, add another 750 on for injectors, gaskets, etc. and another 2,000 (ballpark figure) for labor and you're almost at 10,000 bucks. Now you'd be pushing about 420-450 rwhp, and you're car is in dire need of a transmission and some HEAVY suspension work. If I were you I'd stay automatic (I love the AOD), but your stock one is not going to hold up to that kind of power, so I'd go get a lentech (I don't feel like looking it up right now, figure about 3000 for the tranny and installation cost. Also I'd probably install some 3.55's in the rear end (figure about 500 bucks for equipment and installation. Now with the motor tranny and rear end you're up to about 13,500 bucks. Still got money to burn??? Work on your suspension. Upper and lower control arms, drag spring, subframe connectors, street slicks, 31 spline axles and differential. Blah blah blah.

Dont forget subframes (250 installed), torque box reinforcements (not sure), tune for the blower ($500-600), ignition ($500 +install), tires to hook w/ 450rwhp, etc.

^^ Thats another 2k right there.

I would HIGHLY suggest that you start reading on how to install this stuff... its not that hard and definetly not worth the THOUSANDS of dollars you will have to dish out to have everything installed. Also, what are you going to do when something goes wrong? You will not even know where to start to begin looking for problems... than its back to the mechanic for thousands of dollars worth of work.... AGAIN.

Trust me... PICK UP A MANUAL AND DO IT YOURSELF!

A turbo would be pretty complicated but a supercharger isnt that hard. But I could understand if you dont feel comfortable doing that but there are alot of things that you could do yourself. For ex: your manifold, cai, mass air, injectors, tranny, suspension, exhaust, etc. etc. etc. That listed right there would saveyou atleast 1K

AND on top of it... when something goes wrong you will know what the hell it is and you wont have to take it to a shop every time you hear a ping, tick or whistle. And if you are having trouble installing some parts, thats why the forum are here. There are tons of intelligent people on here willing to help 100%. Just something to think about....

What about more mild? something that would just keep up with the grand national?

preferably taking care of the parts without going up to the turbo/super quite yet.
