buying 91 5.0 lx (1st car) need some help
well im 17 and buying my first car on sunday (i hope) but i dont know what to look out for. its a 1991 lx 5.0 hatchback 5 speed. its got some mods ill list what he told me it had
BBK shorty headers, mac high flow h-pipe installed to keep it legal(car comes with a BBK offroad x-pipe), flowmaster american thunder cat back system, Rear end has Ford racing 3.73 gears and completely rebuilt with ford parts, Summit racing high flow 190 lph fuel pump, Steeda subframe connectors w/crossbraces, Mac cold air kit, Ford racing plug wires, cap and rotor, a new heater core, pass. side headlight, new oil pan, Ford racing high flow oil pump, Ford racing double roller timing chain, new engine mounts and trans mount, fan clutch, starter solenoid, new windshield, KYB shocks and struts, and rear brakes. I think this is all of it and I have reciepts for almost all of the parts. I bought the car about 3 years ago and have only put 22,000 miles on it since I bought it. So all of these parts only have 20,000 at most on them. Still new as far as I'm concerned. I also replaced all of the hoses as well.
thats what he wrote to me in a email he also said it had a ford racing cam.
hes asking 4K and its got 155k miles
for 4k it sounds like a great price.
i just have to ask, what do you think the 1/4 mile time would be
any info at all will be great thanks to you all

Yeah when you see a good deal you gotta take it if you can afford it. I missed an ex-CHP notchback 5.0 5-speed down in southern CA for $2,000 with less than 80k miles on it because my g/f and I had just got our tax returns back and I wasn't sure yet if it was the right thing to do...boy how I regret that. Then not even a month after that I found another notchback 5.0 5-speed in Sacramento, about an hour from where I live, for I think $1,700. It had just been inspected and checked out by a mechanic and was in good condition. For that much money, even if they needed a little work, which I'm sure they did, what a great deal.

Getting back to Bad6as............
The parts he's got into it only easily come to $1500, so I think it sounds like a good deal. Check the car over good though, for any damage. Crawl under it, test drive and listen for any "unusual" noises, ask more questions, etc.
Only thing I'd be leery about is the 155,000 on the bottom end, but the new timing chain would help alleviate that worry.
1/4 mile times? I'm not an expert, but I've seen one with similar mods run 14.4's with a "rookie" driver (Sorry OB ). I would say it should hit high 13's.

all the parts that i listed are under 3 years old he works at a ford dealer and he bought the car 3 years ago and put all this stuf on. i drove it to day and teh clutch grabed as soon as i started to let it out. i take it that thats a good sign. shifting gears was different. my dads dodge 93 colt 1.5l is smooth, in the stang i kinda had to pull it in to gear but wasent to hard is that normal in a stang?

what do you mean by hard? is there an aftermarket shifter in the car? A sign of clutch wear is having difficult time putting it into gear.....also synchro, tran problems, it all depends on what your used to i suppose.....hard to say....
