Default question about early 80s 8.8 posi rear

I am wondering if an 8.8 posi rear from and early 80s mustang is interchangable with an 8.8 rear from a 1994 F150 if it is is there any small differences that would make the swap more difficult or is it a straight in and out. Also were there different gear ratios avaiable in the 8.8 posi rears or were they all 3.55 or all 3.73. If there were different rear end options which number in the vin would tell me what is in there and where would it be located on the rear end housing? Thanks for helping out if any one has any other tidbits of info that i would need to know about feel free

On your door it will have a "axe code" (I think thats what it is) and there should be a letter there. This information is in the stickies I believe...

Also, there are many different gear ratios. 2.73, 3.08's, 3.27's, 3.55's, 3.73's, 3.90's, 4.10's, 4.30's, 4.56's, 4.XXX, etc. .etc. etc.

you're wrong, it is 86+...as for the parts, only the internal parts are interchangeable, except for the axle shafts

First off, the early 80's used a 7.5" axle. First year of the 8.8 in stangs was '86. And no theyre not the same, I believe that the center section is offset on the axle similar to rangers. And mustang axles usually came in 2 gear setups 2.73 and 3.08.
You'll need an axle from an F150

I was asking because i could get an entire car, a futura that has an 8.8 posi rear in it for 250 beans, swap the rears and then resell that car, replacing the rear of the truck with a new part would be a waste of money. truck has 195k miles on it

um, do you realize that no Futura's ever had an 8.8"?

Futura's are getting real rare, if you want to sell it, inform the guys over at www.foureyedpride.com
