tips on a 89 5.0
ok so i went to look at a 89 GT 5.0 last night, the guy wants $2700 for it, its got 3.73s, a new T-5, new clutch, headers, high flow cats, flowmasters, and a STS, there are suppsedly 90k on a rebuilt motor and 200k on the body, sound like a good deal? what else should i look for, theres no rust he took the car apart and restored it by replacing the metal, car is in great condition, just wanted everyones opinion and its pretty much down to the insurance company now.

sounds alright... n e pix? 200,000 on the body.. damn there could be other problems even if the engine was rebulit but again idk what it looks like or how it drives. and $2700 is fairly cheap n e ways. you could prob get it for like $2300.

If I were you I would ask to see some paperwork on the rebuilt engine and T5. If he doesn't have any, you can only assume that everything is still stock. If he does have paperwork and the body is straight thats probably a good price. All depends on how much you want one and how it looks. If it has clean interior and a working A/C with a new T5 and rebuilt engine with papers/receipts, go for it. Otherwise, you might want to shoot for a little lower a price. From my experience, a seller will automatically assume he is going to have to come off his price by $500, so if he asks 3k, he would probably go down to 2500. The other thing to check is tires. If the tires are shot, you are looking at $550 easy for a new set with an alignment.
But ultimately, the decision will come down to how the car feels, looks, drives, and how bad you want it. All the rest is just my 2 cents.

I just bought my 89 lx convert AOD for $3000 with 134k miles on it. The radiator, water pump, hoses, and thermostat were all shot. It needs a tiny bit of body work(1 small dent and some rust spots) and a paint job. Only the convertible switch and the front windows work, A/c Supposedly just needs charged and to find the leak. the major cooling and a/c problems make me wish I'd paid around $2500 but the further I go with no new problems the happier I am.
