Default Lighting problem

Well I just bought this car today, it's a '91. On the way home I noticed a peculiar problem with the lights- If I drive with just the headlamps on, it's fine. However, if I turn on the fog lamps, after 3-5 minutes-ish the headlamps and sometimes fogs start cutting out intermittently. If I turn the headlamps off and back on the problem goes away for a little while, then returns (once again it's fine w/o the fogs). Also, if I only have the running lamps on, the fogs won't turn on. Has anyone ever run into this/have any idea what it could be? Thanks in advance

Pull out the h/l switch and have a look at it. Something is getting hot and shorting out most likely.

Yup, unplug the connections and it will be easy to spot. Alotta current runs through the switch and a bad connection will cause high resistance and heat, then finally failure.

also the fogs wont turn on unless you have the headlights on. you have to rewire it to make the fogs come on without the headlights on. not sure why ford made it that way........[:'(]
