Yeah brand does matter. I would say go with either BBK or Ford Racing. Macs are decent but from what Ive heard thats about it.

i have MAC LT Ceramic's; they look great, they dont hang low or really low for that matter, and if you shop right you can get em really cheap. i got mine shipped to the door with copper gaskets, header bolts and bolts for the rest of the exhaust for less than $250. its a little thing we like to call E-bay

My BBKs dont have low at all. The are actually tucked up there pretty good. Id say there in about the same spot the pipe would be in. Not sure what the policy is in california but here in NC it doesnt matter what kind of headers you have as long as you have cats. The cats dont even have to work (on pre ODB II vehicles).

I've seen quite a few posts on headers now and people argue back and forth about the value of shorties over stock at all, so far no one seems to bring into the equation if you go up to shorties that use a different collector diameter and go all the way back with the larger diameter, does this make the shorties worthwhile? going from a 2 1/4" collector and exhaust system to a 2.5" system from headers back? are the different primary sizes only for heads that have a different output port size or something? someone very technically oriented must know these things.
