engine noise
i was out driving my mustang a few weeks ago and decided to do a high speed pull, i got it up to around 140 and shut it down, when i got home i pulled into my driveway the engine was making a tapping noise. i had a mecanic look at it and all he did was pop the hood and he told me it was a bent rod. since then i have looked into replacing the motor but want to be sure before i pull it out? the oil pressure on the motor is the same as it was before, the noise is a loud tapping sound, i pulled the plug wires and when the passanger back cylinder wire was pulled the sound got quietier. the sound seems louder at idle but fades away as the revs go up on the motor. the motor is all stock, only mods to the car is exhaust/intake/timing. i just dont see how i could bend a rod on a stock motor that easily. btw the car/engine had 90,000 miles on it

RE: engine noise
a "bad rod" would not get quieter as the engine revs.
might not be getting enough oil in one of your lifters. once the oil pressure boosts a bit, that might fill the lifter up and cure your problem.

RE: engine noise
I've heard people discuss this problem before. It's always after the car has been run hard. It sounds like a lifter being starved for oil. A lot of people have said that the problem goes away after a short time. But I agree, a broken rod or spun bearing would not get quieter with revs--nor could it be confused with a "tap."

what about someting as simple as an exhaust leak from a blown out manifold gasket. That could happen after running it hard as well.
