Got a question for you 5.0 People.
So right now I own 96 GT, it runs excellent and I really love it. But my friend and I want to buy a stang and work on it together. We decided that the Fox-body is the perfect car for that. Now I have a question,
1. Would it be cheaper to buy a GT (already a 5.0/manual) or a LX (4cyl/manual and convert it to a 5.0).
We plan on having it be a street car and running a supercharger on it. We will bring it to the track also, but mainly a fun street car.

It depends, do you plan on using a 302? If you plan on using a 302 I would just look into a 5.0 that already had a decent running motor, etc. Unless you plan on rebuilding it. Now if you plan on running a 351W or something like that it would definetly be easier to just use a 4cyl since you are going to have to pull the motor anyway.

I would just start out with the V8, save you LOTS of headaches
not just the engine, but axles and other stuff too.
remember 89 and newer have Mass Air, 90 and newer have air bags.

^^ But if he plans on keeping the 302 whats the point of buying a 4cyl just to swap it when you could prob get a decent 8 for the price of a 4. Theres really not that much of a difference in price.... not enough to make me want to swap a motor if unneccessary anyway.

and a 4cyl swap isnt too tricky, but it's also no walk in the park.
the rear-ends and trannies are also weak as a newborn baby when tested by a 5.0

89-92 had forged pistons, but you'll break the block before you break stock crank.

OK! Thanks for the help guys. Im going to look for a 90-92' GT. The foxbody's have stock forged internals until the 93 right?
