Default 3.73s, and a Rebuild???$$$$$$$

i want to get 3.73's put into my 95GT 5 SPD. My uncle is a mechanic and he told me that if i am going to do the gears, then it is a good idea to rebuild the rear. His other mechanic at another shop does the rearends for him. he priced the rear at $1025(gears and rebuild)(the other mechanic included the price of the gears in the total). i just want the gears, is it really necessary to hav the rebuild aswell? And if gas is not a factor am i better off getting 4.10 gears? o yea and my mileage is almost 112,000. IS this too much for the whole deal?
