RE: '94/'95 tail lights. about to paint mine???
I used semi-gloss when I did the 87 tails for my 86. I sanded, but didn't primer. I think gloss and flat don't look right. I was going to the 'covers' look. Just my 2 cents...

wash with a good soap, wipe down with silicone wax and grease remover, sand with some 400 grit paper wipe down with wax and grease remover again. tack them off , paint!

but its not trim its the tail lights usually they are painted to match the car color i just painted mine black cause the car is red taillights are red and lenses are red. wanted it to stand out.
i didnt use primer for mine i just painted it right on the plastic since it was plastic paint... havent had any problems so far and i did it about 6 mos ago.
+1 for semi-gloss ... trim on cars, mirrors, grills, etc. you should use a semi-gloss trim paint. looks very oem.

well .. to each his own i guess ... but i don't know if you've noticed on a lot of vehicles, the factory mostly uses semi-gloss around the tail light area. be it trim, bezels, or whatever. from a design aspect you need to have some areas that are not glossy. i know a lot of guys paint their window trims, mirrors, and cowl grills with glossy black ... but IMO i think it looks like poo. i'm standing by the semi-gloss and all the others above me that have mentioned it, but again .. to each his own.
