My 91 fox is making a howling sound coming from the rear of my car the noise only goes on when I get on the gas has anyone had or heard this type sound? My friend that I bought the car from put 3:73's in it but said the backlash was close to perfect....rearend? bearings? gears? need your help

It could be the gears, but if it all the sudden started making a howling noise, I suspect the axle bearings. How many miles are on the car and have they ever been changed? I don't recommend it , but when I was dianosing noises in a 71 Cutlass I used to own with a 4.11, I just put it up on very solid jack stands and had a friend run it until I could determine the noise location. If the rearend has never had a fresh set of axle bearings, I would just replace and see it solves the problem. Sooner or later you'll have to replace them anyway.

what exactly is close to perfect? more than likely it wasnt set up right your pinion is prob too deep

he probably left in the old bearing races and put in new bearings, and the pinion bearing preload is too tight.
