Idle air control question
When I first start my car it starts fine and then dies, but if I give it a little gas I can keep it running, and after a reving it a few times it idles fine, would this be a problem with my i/a/c? or something else

RE: Idle air control question
Just take it off and clean it with some carb cleaner, then re-install it and see if it still does it. I had the same problem on my explorer, i cleaned my IAC and it cleared up.
Even when you give it gas it just kinda bogs some, is that the same with yours?

RE: Idle air control question
try the seafoam treatment as well. do a search, it'll come up in the forums. when the carbon starts building up on the valves, the fuel will actually soak into the carbon and not get to where it can be ignited. And it never hurts to clean the IAC as you have said.

RE: Idle air control question
i'm having the same problem as you described in your post:
car starts great, then wants to die. Give it a bit of gas and hold it, then after a few min its okay.
only happens when I start it for the first time during the day.
If you solve this problem, please let me know what you did.

RE: Idle air control question
i was having the same problem as both of you. I ended up taking the entire plenum off, let it soak overnight with some carb cleaner. When I dumped it, it looked like I just changed the oil. Then I cleaned it again with brake clean (no residue) and blew it out. Problem was better, but still had problems. After the seafoam treatment (3 or 4 times over 2 weeks) the smoke became less and less and finally it starts and stays running without gassing it.

i know a friend of mine took his upper intake off his totally stock 5.0 that hadnt been opened since the day it was put on in Detroit...it was choked full of about 1/2 of carbon build up all the way around the runners.
