Default MAJOR gas probloem

Hey I was wondering since this is my first mustang what couild be the problem with my gas. I get about 8 miles to the gallon and I dont know why. I have GT40 P heads headers and x pipe and I know thats not enough to make the gas mileage SO BAD. If you could help that would be great thank you.

Are you in good tune? Whens the last time you did things like change the air filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.? That'd be where I'd start first. 8 mpg is less than half of what you should be getting. Maybe you got a theiving neighbor siphoning your gas lol.

Yea, that's horrible numbers. I've always loved the hidden gas door release on the foxes like mine.

I get about 16-18 mpg with the mods i have. My friends 92 gets about 300miles per tank which is about double what i get. I didnt think gears would make that much of a difference. the car runs well except for the gas gauge going down soooo fast. My car seems to run alot hotter than my friends 92 why could that be? could that make a difference or could there be something bad im my car? any help would be nice

The 5.0's seem to go up and down with milage, depending on how much highway you do gears will def make a differance. If they stocks were 2.73's and you have 3.73's then you're gonna loose a good chunk of milage.

Yeah I have changed the wires the plugs and I have had a diagnostic scan and the O2 sensors where fine. The air filter is K&N and I cleaned it when I got it. I have no idea what else it is. Maybe the guy before me changed the gears I hope not because I was planning on getting them and making the car go faster then it is right now. should I consider a new ECU???

Check on the gears, they should be marked. Pull off the rear axle cover and check the ring gear for any markings. Just make sure you get some gear oil first so you can refill it afterwards. That happened to a friend of mine and he ended up selling the gears to me, I just havn't had the money to put them in yet.
