Default A few newbie questions for a 86 GT.

Hi everyone, i'm new here.. so bare with me a little please. lol. anyways.. just had a few questions on my car. i just picked this car up a few months ago.. it seems like the clutch might be getting a little weak. it feels like the shifts are really soft. it's not slipping yet but i was wondering, if it is getting a little week, then would i be able to get a billet firewall adjuster and a billet clutch quadrant and a new cable to hopefully prolong having to put a clutch in by adjusting it up a little?... if not.. who do you recomend for a clutch? i saw ram clutches and the sound pretty good and at a fair price too.

also.. i know that the non MAF cars kinda react a little differently to mods then the MAF motors do... about how far can i go with boltons?.. i found bbk longtube headers and the off-road x pipe that goes with the headers... i want to get them but i'm not sure if it will make my car run funny.

also.. i have a surging idle too.. jumps between 750 and 1250 sometimes.. i tried cleaning my IAC motor and the throttle body too.. helped a lil. not much though. any idea?

well thanks.. i know it's alot.. but thank you guys for taking the time to listen and for your ideas and opinions.

first I would stay with a ford cable and just buy the 3 hook quad and firewall adjuster....I doubt it will prolong your clutch.....try taking your foot and pull up on the clutch pedal this make a tiny adjustment

i have done that.. and it just gives me like an inch or so of free play. like i pull up on it with my foot and it stays up but when i push the clutch pedal in again then it just comes back to were it was. just leaving me that inch or so of free play.

ok, so the free play is normal then. so with the firewall adjuster and the quadrant.. and a stock ford cale it wouldnt help to get any more life out the clutch by adjustments?

Also what about the ram clutches?.. if i got to replace it i want to have a good one that will stand up to future mods.. and the boltons on a non-maf car?.. and the idle surging? i tried to search for these things.. but i couldnt really find anything.. if somebody has any ideas or opinions that would help me that would be great.

Youd be ok with the clutch fix for now but personally i'd just buy a new clutch, and as far as LT's don't buy them they loose a lot of low end torque and are meant for high HP cars, or track cars, go with a shorty equal length, and to fix your surging idle ....http://www.muscularmustangs.com/maintain.php. Under idle problems gives very detailed instructions.

Good luck and welcome.

so intakes and throttle boddies and and headers and all the stuff like that will be ok to add to it without ? i'm just currious to how far i can go without a MAF or changing out the stock "E6" heads.

you can go pretty far, but having stock will just hold you back from hp gains. Pro sc on here has all stock internals and a typhoon intake and is still puttin out 350 hp! but if he were to get heads he could gain prob 40-80 more
