Well my speedometer didnt work when i got the car. and i was wondering what could cause this to happen. I just went and got a cable for the speedo.

I had the same problem when I bought my car a few months ago.My speedo would read 140 at highway speed and sometimes just bounce all over the place.I changed out the speed sensor in the trans...no luck.Checked cable seemed to work fine(spun while driving).I disassembled the guage cluster and discovered that there is a round disc in the back of the speedo and it was bent.I tried to fix it and it worked for about two days then went crazy again.I ended up just buying a used cluster on Ebay for around $50 bucks and swapped the speedo into my cluster.Hope this helps.
