Timing Advice

Default Timing Advice

all right went out to set my timing, hooked up my light and it read 21*, shut off car unplugged spout, started car and set timing to 12*, put spout connector back in and boom jumps right back up to 21*......WTF!!!!!.....how can this happen? And what can I do to fix it? I know you guys know please help me!!

the spout connector allows the computer to adjust the timing.

you dont need to shut it off to remove/replace the spout.

Yes, the timing is controled by the ecm, the "base" timing is it's set point. Then it takes over from there.

thats normal. in drive with my foot on the brake i run 23* total timing at idle <--i know this because my PMS says so

Yea, It freaked me out the first time..........mine showed 30*.....................and then I took off the spout and it showed 18-19......Holy shizz!! Thats why the damm things been pinging like a chevette on bad gas!!

The donkey who owned this car before me decided he was going to get as much HP out of it without spending any $$$......You should see what I had to fix!!

I am new to 5.0 Mustang.
Is the timing controlled by the ECU in fox body mustang? Is it mechanical? If it is driven by the ECU, Does the timing vary based on TPS, RPM, & MAP or MAF electronically?
I am in the market for the FOX BODY mustang. What year came with ECU controlled timing? Most likely I will be picking up the car with MSD ignition with lower/upper header, heads, cam, injector, & fuel pump.....
