Default 1985 Mustang GT add-ons

Hey guys, i'm new to these forums and to mustangs in general (as far as owning one) so take it easy on me. I saw that this is the 5.0 area, so i hope what i'm posting about fits into this category. Anyway, I would mainly like to know what i should add to my mustang to make it accelerate and all around run smoother. I'm gonna get a K&N Air filter, but i would like to know what i should put on it as far as an exhaust system. I don't really want a Flowmaster because they sound tinny, but i would really like something that gives it a deep, throaty sound (it'd be nice if it was loud). I like magnaflow, but if there is another good brand i'd like to hear about it. If you have any other suggestions of good parts to add on, keep in mind my '85 has a 4 barrel. Thanks.

first, you have a Y-Pipe, it is not a true duel. Only JBA makes smog legal headers for an 85. YOur rear end is the weak link, swap it out for an 86-93 8.8" Personally, I like Dynomax Utraflos...

actually, i don't know what the people did before me, or if mine is somehow different, but it is truly a dual exhaust. I can track the headers all the way down, then get on the ground and see that the pipes go all the way back to two mufflers. It's an h-pipe actually.

what would be a good, affordable, aftermarket h-pipe.

I would upgrade the intake manifold and carb personally. I'm sure after 21 years that carb is in need of an overhaul no mater how many miles are on it.

the 83-85 intake flows as well as Edelbrock's only smog legal 302 carbed intake. The carb is a 600 cfm Holey

You would think so, but like twister said, it's a holley 600cfm carb. with only 105,000 miles on it. That part of it runs great (need to adjust air/fuel ratio, it's burning a little rich) so i'm thinking of maybe just putting some bbk headers on it with a MAC h-pipe, followed by magnaflows. If it sounds like that would work, let me know.

Is your car an auto or did I miss that? Were you going to put long tube headers or shorties on?
