Default valves

as i said before, im not really mechanical. i was very curious thow. i see caddys with their 32valve nothstars and such, what does my 88 5.0 have in terms of valves? and what is the diffrence between the mustangs of 88-04 vs like caddys northstar and other enignes in terms of valves. what does more valves get you? pros-cons?
thanx

Your 5.0 has 16 Valves. Thats 2 valves per cylinder. Where as new cobras and the northstar engines have 4 valves per cylinder or 32 total. More valves gets you better fuel mixture, the possibility of producing more power because of increased induction and exhaust capacities. Cons are minimal but could include more moving parts creates more complexity.

cool, but im suprised that my 5.0HO is at such a disadvantage to most cars on the road now. i mean its a sports car. so what make our mustang engine faster or better then that of these luxury cars and stuff?

Well, for starters, its bigger. We get more power from more cylinders, larger valves in comparison to most, and more combustable volume. You're wrong in thinking that its at a disadvantage to be in a mustang. Just beacuse a car has more valves doesnt make it better. Someone could have 2 huge valves and flow better than any ricer pos with 4 valves per cylinder. Just a matter of preference and purpose for the car.

Yeah, don't let valve count fool you. 4-valves are nice, but keep in mind all the drag racers that run 2-valve engines, including fuelies. You can go as fast as you wanna go with a 2-valve engine. You are in no way at a disadvantage with your 5.0.

sweet thanx
im not racing or anything, but its nice to know what i got if i ever need it.
i owned a ford probe GL and got beat on the streets by someone in a mini van. and it wasnt my driving LOL.
i disowned that car that day.
i know the 5.0 is a way faster car and a true sports car, but i just had to ask, cause all i see is the 32valve hype.
